Lecture: Radical Behaviorism, Democratizing Knowledge and Setting the Stage for Quality of Life Improvements

This presentation will focus on an example of a multi-decade intervention project with young children who engaged in serious and persistent challenging behavior at 3 years of age. Broad social outcomes included:

  • eliminating the institutionalization of children under age 5;
  • addressing child physical abuse by adult family members;
  • addressing punitive behavior management strategies by preschool teachers;
  • and eliminating disproportionality in suspension and expulsion in early care and education settings.

Across the research initiatives examples of essential quality of life changes for children and adults will be highlighted, including:

  • later academic success;
  • adolescent and adult mental health;
  • employment;
  • friendships;
  • and positive teacher-child and parent-child interactions.
