Dr. Rashida Banerjee's area of interest are effective assessment of young children, especially issues around diversity, inclusive intervention for young children, personnel development, and effective community, family, and professional partnerships. In her most recent role as a Professor, Early Childhood Special Education Program Coordinator, and Director for the Center for Early Childhood and Family Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, Dr. Banerjee has demonstrated commitment to students, preparation of well-prepared personnel in education, and collaboration with colleagues. In accordance with her interests, Dr. Banerjee has published articles, book chapters, received grants, and presented at numerous local, national, and international conferences. Her current national projects funded through the Department of Education, specifically focus on preparing well qualified early childhood and early childhood special educators. She has served on the Division for Early Childhood Board and currently serves on the DEC Recommended Practices Committee responsible for ensuring the development and use of evidenced based practices in early childhood. She also serves as the Editor for Journal for International Special Needs Education.

Mary Kay Delaney earned a B.A. from The George Washington University, a Master of Education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and a Ph.D. in social foundations of education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also completed courses leading to graduate teaching licensure in special education at Boston University. Mary Kay served as an alternate federal negotiator on the U.S. Department of Education Teacher Preparation Committee (2012), the committee that first considered, via the negotiated rule-making process, current proposed teacher education regulations. She recently served on the North Carolina Think Tank on K-3 Assessment as part of a state-wide, interdisciplinary effort to develop assessment for learning activities. She has taught in public and private schools and has served as principal of a PK-8 parochial school. She is the recipient of the School of Education, Health, and Human Sciences Dean’s Award (2014), the EHHS Service Award (2010), and the Laura Harrill Presidential Award for Outstanding Service, Meredith College (2011). Her areas of special interest include learning in sociocultural contexts, teacher education, equity and education, special education, and qualitative research methods.

A Colorado native, Kara Duggan comes to Morgridge College of Education from the University of Wyoming. There, she received a Bachelor of Arts in English with professional and creative writing minors, and then worked on campus in a variety of positions. As an office associate for the Wyoming School-University Partnership, Duggan gained experience in conference planning, marketing, and collaborating with educators across the state. Duggan then worked as the project coordinator for UW’s Sensory Biology Center (SBC). She managed the accounting, assisted the primary investigators and graduate students, and developed communication strategies for the center. At Morgridge, Duggan is thrilled to support students and faculty in the Teacher Education Preparation and Curriculum and Instruction programs. She also will help coordinate events for the Higher Education department and assist with its newsletters and reports. When not at MCE, Duggan enjoys exploring all the activities and events DU has to offer, playing in Denver, and hanging out with family in Fort Collins.

Korrie Allen, PsyD is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice in the Child, Family and School Psychology program. Dr. Allen received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Notre Dame and her doctoral degree in Psychology from St. John’s University. Dr. Allen was an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School and on the professional staff at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters until 2013 when she relocated to Northern Virginia and founded Innovative Psychological Solutions. Dr. Allen has successfully completed research projects funded by agencies such as the Commonwealth Health Research Board, U.S. Department of Education, Governor’s Office of Substance Abuse Prevention and the Society for School Psychology Research. Her recent studies evaluated the impact of parent-child interaction training to address aggressive and oppositional behaviors among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her areas of expertise include autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities and disruptive behavior disorders. She has received the Outstanding Research in Counseling Award from the American Education Research Association and the Distinguished Alumni Award from St. John’s University. She has presented at national conferences, published in peer-reviewed journals, and co-edited the book Cognitive Behavior Therapy in the Schools.

Dr. Kirsten Brown is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Child, Family, and School Psychology (CFSP) program. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Brown is also a Co-Director of the Adolescent Addictions Specialization collaboration between the CFSP program and Counseling Psychology program. In addition to her work as an adjunct for the CFSP program at DU, she has worked as a School Psychologist in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as in Cherry Creek Schools in Colorado for elementary through alternative high school populations providing assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation. Previous to school psychology, Dr. Brown worked in clinical nonprofit and private practice settings. Her teaching and research interests include: counseling best practices, anxiety in childhood and adolescence, internalizing disorders and their impact on school performance, the role of trauma on executive functions, and supporting adolescents dealing with substance use and abuse in schools. She earned her BA in English with a concentration in Secondary Teaching Preparation and a minor in Psychology from Sonoma State University. Dr. Brown received an MA in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University, and completed her PhD in Child, Family, and School Psychology at the University of Denver. Dr. Brown is a member of the American Psychological Association, Colorado Society of School Psychologists, and National Association of School Psychologists. When she is not working, Dr. Brown can be found spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Jeanine Coleman is part of Curriculum, Studies & Teaching. She is the Clinical Associate Professor in the Early Childhood Special Education program.  Dr. Coleman has an MA in Early Childhood Special Education and she received her PhD from the University of Denver in the Child, Family & School Psychology program. She has served as a teacher, advocate, and interventionist for very young children with special needs and their families across the state.  She worked on the Early Childhood Team in the Lieutenant Governor’s office under Dr. Barbara O’Brien and has worked for Head Start, Adams County Five Star Schools, Fisher Early Learning Center, and Denver Public Schools.  Dr. Coleman consults with school districts across Colorado and other states on the Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment and Intervention process.  Her research interests include families with children with neurodevelopmental disorders, assessments methods for young children, and working with families going through the early intervention/special education processes.

I am new to the DU community following several years in PK-12 public education. I currently am a Visiting Assistant Professor in Child Family and School Psychology and the Child, Family and School Psychology Clinic Director.  Prior to coming to DU, I served in a variety of leadership roles in Denver Public Schools--most recently as the Associate Chief of Student Equity and Opportunity.  That role included the overall supervision of Special Education, Section 504, School Psychology, School Social Work, Whole Child Supports, trauma-informed practices, crisis intervention supports, gifted & talented supports, Native American student supports and student discipline.  Prior to that, I served as a school psychologist in Adams 14 School District, providing assessments and interventions for students ECE-21.  I received my Doctorate in Clinical and Developmental Psychology from the University of Iowa, and completed my pre-doctoral internship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  I received my specialization in School Psychology from the University of Colorado-Denver and my Special Education Director certification from the University of Northern Colorado. My clinical interests include clinical supervision, culturally-responsive interventions, strengths-based supports and trauma-informed practices.  My research interest, in collaboration with the faculty at the Graduate School of Social Work, has been focused on strategies to eliminate disparities in student discipline in public school settings. I currently serve as the Board Chair of the Colorado Association of School Based Health Centers, as a governmental representative on the 2Gen development strategy for mental health and am a Governor-appointed board member of the Colorado Child Protection Ombuds Office.  I’ve previously served as a Board Member and Chair of the Odyssey (Denver) Charter school and as a Vestry Member for St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Dr. Hazel received her PhD from the University of Northern Colorado.  She has coordinated arts-based after-school programs for urban youth, served as the Behavior Evaluation and Support Teams Coordinator for the Colorado Department of Education, and practiced as a school psychologist in communities of predominately poor, Latino families from preschool through secondary levels.  Dr. Hazel is also a Nationally Certified School Psychologist through the National Association of School Psychologists and the President of the Trainers of School Psychologists.  Her research interests include student school engagement, data-driven decision making, supporting students to graduate from high school with their cohort, preventing bullying, and consulting.  Dr. Hazel has one daughter and likes to raft with her family in the summer and ski with them in the winter.

Dr. Sarah K. Killion is a two time graduate from the University of Denver’s Child, Family and School Psychology Program receiving her Ed.S. in 2009 and her Ph.D. in 2019. Dr. Killion is also a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She previously worked as a School Psychologist in Denver Public Schools for 10+ years serving as the Special Education Chairperson, District Crisis Team Leader and MTSS Co-Facilitator for her E-8 building. In addition, Dr. Killion has served as a supervisor for graduate students in the CFSP program and as a mentor for early career professionals through NASP. She has also presented her dissertation work at both state and national conferences, including CSSP and NASP. Dr Killion is a contributor to the APA Psych Learning Curve blog as well as NASP’s Communique newsletter. She also manages the Facebook Group “Psyched and Socialized” – a resource bank of articles and tips for teachers, parents, administrators and others who would like access to information related to cognitive, academic, social/emotional and behavioral of students birth – 21. Dr. Killion’s research interests include ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Executive Functioning Skills; Universal Crisis Prevention, Intervention and School Safety: Legal and Ethical Issues related to Special Education; and Collaborative, Consultative and Mindfulness Practices. In her spare time, Dr. Killion enjoys baking, reading, doing yoga, watching her hometown sports teams and being outside with her husband and Siberian Husky.

Dr. Amy K. McDiarmid received her doctorate degree from the University of Denver and is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. In the past, she has worked as a Behavior Specialist through the Colorado Department of Education and provided urban and rural districts with guidance around intervention and data collection at the universal, targeted and intensive levels of service. She has worked as a School Psychologist with Denver Public Schools for the past ten years and currently maintains a part-time position within the district as a practitioner.  During her work with Denver Public Schools, she has specialized in alternative education providing assessment, counseling, consultation and crisis intervention (school, district & state level).  Additionally, she has delivered school-wide and district guidance around social emotional development and educating the whole child.  Her passion and research interests include: equity in student voice and choice in academic and social emotional learning; and, authentic relationship development within a school climate and culture.  Dr. McDiarmid is a member of the National Association of School Psychologist, American Psychological Association and Colorado Society of School Psychologists. Dr. Miller received her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  After graduation, she took a position in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Carolina where she taught undergraduate and graduate students for 11 years, practiced as a school psychologist, served as the undergraduate program director, and co-directed the Child and Family Studies Center, a NIMH research project investigating family-based treatment to prevent aggressive and challenging behaviors in young children. Dr. Miller’s publications include articles, chapters, and books on home and school prevention and intervention strategies to enhance early literacy, self-regulation and social emotional development. Her personal interests include reading, hiking, skiing, tennis, gardening, traveling, and "playing" with her husband of over 35 years and her daughter.

Tara C. Raines, Ph.D., N.C.S.P. is an Assistant Professor in the Child, Family, and School Psychology program and affiliate faculty member of the Center for Multicultural Excellence at University of Denver. Dr. Raines received an undergraduate and M.A. degree in Special Education from Florida State University, a M.A. and specialist degree in School Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, and she ultimately obtained her Ph.D. in School Psychology from Georgia State University. She investigates early identification of behavioral and emotional disorders, subsequent interventions and outcomes across different groups. More recently, Dr. Raines partnered with Clark County Schools and the City of Las Vegas on their implementation of My Brother’s Keeper, an initiative that was recently adopted by President Obama to expand opportunity at key moments in the lives of young men of color. She is leading the program evaluation and providing technical assistance for participating schools. In addition to her passion for research, Dr. Raines is also dedicated to the improvement of cultural competence and increase of bilingual practitioners in the fields of mental health and education.

Professor Karen Riley is the Dean of the Morgridge College of Education (MCE). She is an internationally recognized expert in neurodevelopmental disorders, and her scholarship focuses on interdisciplinary and intersystem approaches to addressing the complex issues of today’s society and improving the lives of children and families effected by fragile X syndrome and Down syndrome. Dr. Riley's prior research has focused on educational and behavioral interventions and outcome measures related to targeted treatments. She has authored or co-authored more than 50 book chapters, clinical guidelines, journal articles, and has over 150 national and international conference presentations. She has served as the PI (Principal Investigator) or CO-PI (Co-Principal Investigator) on research grants exceeding $5.8 million from funders including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), National Institute of Health, and Institute for Educational Sciences.

As a leader in the community and within the field of education, Dr. Riley serves on several boards and community committees. These include the Colorado Center for Rural Education, Mayor’s Education Compact, National Fragile X Clinical and Scientific Advisory Council, Center for Disease Control Outcome Measures Advisory Committee, Denver Museum of Nature and Science Sticky Issues Task Force, and Colorado Department of Education Educator Preparation Program Advisory Committee.

Dr. Riley holds an MA in Early Childhood Special Education and a PhD in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Child and Family Studies from MCE at the University of Denver and a BS in Psychology from Colorado State University. She was the recipient of the FRAXA Post-Doctoral Fellowship at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, and has received numerous awards including the National Fragile X Foundation Clinical Award for Translational Research (2018), National Fragile X Foundation Outstanding Service Award (2010), and the DU Academic Spotlight Honoree (2012).

Dr. Riley started her career at Adams County School District 12. Following her post-doc she worked at The Children’s Hospital, rejoined her alma mater in 2004 as an Assistant Professor, and assumed the role of Dean in 2013.
