As program co-chair, I would like to thank all who attended the 2018 Public Policy Forum co-hosted by the Colorado Department of Higher Education and the Higher Education Department of the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver. This webpage includes artifacts from the Forum, including videos of the plenary sessions, a Flickr photo album with pictures from the Forum, the Native Land Acknowledgement, and the research brief entitled, “The Role of Intermediary Public Policy Organizations in Shaping the Policy Agenda for Higher Education.”
Thanks to the participation of attendees, the Forum inspired exciting and important conversations about how states might promote equity-focused public policy for education. I am proud to share that we had presentations by 15 higher education institutions and 13 intermediary public policy organizations including the American Indian College Fund, Complete College America, The Education Trust, the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association, the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, Young Invincibles, the Lumina Foundation, and the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems. We also enjoyed keynote lectures by Drs. Stella Flores, Associate Professor of Higher Education; Director of Access and Equity, Steinhardt Institute for Higher Education Policy, New York University, and Ted Mitchell, President, American Council on Education. Finally, the Forum generated 128 unique Tweets using the hashtag #DUPolicyForum.
While these are laudable accomplishments, I am reminded that our work is far from done. Indeed, there is much we must do to promote equity-focused public policies for education in the states. Our hope is that those who were in attendance are able to leverage new knowledge and relationships created as part of the Forum to advance this vital work. We encourage you to use the Forum hashtag (#DUPolicyForum) to continue the conversation.
Thank you again for attending the 2018 Public Policy Forum!
