Royal Raven Classroom
The Preschool Classrooms at the University of Denver’s Fisher Early Learning Center serve children ages 3 to 4 in a vibrant, play-based environment designed to nurture curiosity, confidence, and growing independence. Our educators use research-based curricula, including Creative Curriculum and Project Approach, to provide developmentally appropriate experiences that support the whole child. These approaches integrate social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, math, science, technology, social studies, and the arts into meaningful daily learning.
Through hands-on exploration, engaging projects, and consistent routines, children build early academic foundations, strengthen problem-solving skills, and form meaningful friendships. Learning is guided by both teacher- and child-directed experiences, with project-based investigations that reflect children’s interests and individual needs. We partner closely with families to create a caring community where every child feels valued, capable, and excited to learn each day.
Classroom Teachers
Simon Weed, Lead Teacher
Simon, often called “Simon Says” by the children, was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he played hockey and soccer for most of his life. In his free time, he enjoys skiing, playing guitar, and relaxing with his favorite TV shows.
He developed a passion for working with children while volunteering at the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery during high school. In 2020, Simon began attending the University of Denver, where he studied Psychology with a focus on childhood and lifespan development, graduating in June. He has worked at Fisher for over a year and a half, first as a student worker and now as a long-term substitute in the Friendly Sea Turtles and Moon Bears classrooms. Simon has built wonderful relationships with many children, families, and teachers and looks forward to working more frequently with the Royal Ravens while continuing his journey at Fisher.
Jazmyne Luna, Associate Teacher
Jazmyne Luna is a mother of three who was born in El Paso, Texas, raised in the Dallas suburbs, and has called Denver home for the past five years. As the oldest of three siblings, she has always been drawn to caring for others.
Jazmyne holds a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of North Texas and brings over 15 years of experience in child care and education. Her work has deepened her passion for nurturing, teaching, and building meaningful connections with children of all ages.
Outside of work and motherhood, Jazmyne enjoys thrifting, spending time outdoors, playing guitar, singing, and writing. Her life is rooted in love, creativity, and purpose, and she looks forward to joining the team at Fisher and meeting the wonderful families in the community.
Alexis Curtis, Continuity of Care Associate
Meet Alexis one of our newest members to the team! If you spot her with something embroidered, crocheted, or sewn, chances are she made it herself!
She has a Bachelors in Psychology with a Clinical and Counseling emphasis. She also took several classes on childhood developmental psychology, classroom management, and teaching. Within the last year she was certified and practiced as a Registered Behavior Technician providing behavioral therapeutic interventions for children diagnosed with autism. As the eldest in her family of 5 siblings, and after working as a classroom assistant in an elementary school, she’s had a long time in her personal and professional life to learn how to best befriend and support young children.
