What I do

I am a Research Associate at the Marsico Institute for Early Learning.  I am an experienced educator and leader excited to bring my knowledge to support professional development, conduct classroom observations and child assessments, as well as supporting the math interventions implemented at Marsico.

Professional Biography

Catherine Vancik, MA, has 15 years of early childhood teaching experience, coupled with special education practice at the middle school level. She has taught nationally - Michigan, New Jersey, Virginia and Colorado - as well as internationally at the Marymount International School, Paris where she taught first grade and preschool.  During her time abroad, she engaged with international curricula and supported English Language Learners representing 42 countries worldwide.   

Catherine earned her BA in Psychology and MA in Education from the University of Michigan, where she was enrolled in the Masters of Arts and Certification (MAC) program. In her current role at the Marsico Institute, Catherine supports the assessment of early learners in the REMA (Research-based Early Math Assessment), gathering and analyzing student research data to help create effective and engaging math content for teachers and students.  Catherine also supports Professional Development training of teachers in the Connect 4 Learning curriculum and in the use of Learning Trajectories - the research-based developmental learning of mathematics.  You can find Catherine continuing her work in school settings around the Denver area, playtesting learning activities, filming content for the Learningtrajectories.org website, and sharing her passion for early mathematics and STEM learning.
