Professional Biography
James Hiramoto, Ph.D. is a graduate of UC Berkeley's School Psychology Program with nearly 30 years as a school psychologist in California. He comes to the University of Denver’s school psychology program with 10 years+ as professor/program director of a masters and doctoral program in educational & school psychology; 7 years with the Diagnostic Center, North, California Department of Education, working with some of the most complex cases in the state; and 5+ years as an elected school board member. He has provided professional development trainings statewide to over 25 Special Education Local Plan Areas and County Offices of Education in addition to 30 school districts throughout California. He has also provided these trainings for the National and California Associations of School Psychologists (NASP and CASP) and affiliate associations. He has served many roles for CASP over the years: Including Region II Representative and has served as Assessment Specialist for the past 7+ years. He has written and co-authored CASP Position Papers such as” “Regarding African American Student Achievement and Success”; CASP Resource Papers-School Psychology Practice during COVID Series #1 and #2 (which were cited by NASP and other state associations); and the recent CASP Oct 10, 2023’s Response to CDE’s September 14, 2022’s Memorandum: Special Education Assessment of African American Students.
