Professional Biography

Rashida Banerjee, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning Sciences at the University of Denver. She also served as the Chair of the same department from 2019 to 2023.

Her research areas are effective community, family, and professional partnerships, appropriate assessment of young children, and especially interdisciplinary special education workforce development. Dr. Banerjee has published articles, book chapters, and books, received grants, and presented at numerous national and international conferences on these topics. Her research and funded projects focus on preparing well-qualified early childhood and special education educators.

Dr. Banerjee has served on the Board of national organizations such as the Division for Early Childhood and the Division for International Special Education Services. She served on the DEC Recommended Practices Committee responsible for ensuring the development and use of evidence-based practices in early childhood. Dr. Banerjee has been the Editor for the Journal for International Special Needs Education and Associate Editor of the Young Exceptional Children Journal. She is currently the associate editor for Topics in Early Childhood Special Education Journal. She is a recipient of the International Ford Foundation Fellowship Program.
