Professional Biography

Dr. Doris Candelarie received her PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Denver, her MA in Education: Teaching and Learning at Regis University and a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She has spent the last 28 years in public education as an elementary and middle school teacher, elementary and middle school principal, and central office administrator. In 2014, she was recognized as the Colorado National Distinguished Principal for her work at Sanchez International School, a former turnaround school. Dr. Candelarie transitioned from the public school world to a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Denver. Her teaching agenda includes preparing the next generation of principals and courses in the Masters and Doctoral programs in Educational Leadership. Influencing change for the greater good and closing the opportunity gap through education are her professional passions along with interests in school regeneration, turnaround leadership, parent and community engagement in schools, the use of a pyramid approach for multi-tiered systems of support for all student subgroups and intercultural development for leaders.
