Airplane Adventures!

Circle time after winter break opened the door to a class-wide passion for airplanes and air travel in preschool. Ms. Mary and Ms. Elizabeth didn’t miss a beat creating an airplane travel theme in the dramatic play area complete with an “airplane” cardboard box (not a box!) decorated by the children, costumes for pilots and flight attendants, and an atlas study area for flight planning. From here, a parent connected the class with executives from United Airlines who visited the classroom and followed up with an invitation to DIA for an airport/airplane tour. Emergent learning—where interests sparked during play become the starting point for activities and lesson plans—at its best!
